Whether you are playing Indian poker as a hobby or professionally, your objective is always to win the game! And while you do rely on getting a good hand to play well, whether you go on to win depends a lot on how you execute your skills.
If you are new to play poker online, you make sure to do well, and you know the hierarchy of possible winning hands. This hierarchy is nothing but the rankings. Of course, you need to play smartly to make the most of good hands, but your ability to identify the good hands will go a long way in helping you master the game of poker.
Having spoken about poker hand rankings, there are a total of 10 such poker hand combinations with the one at the top of the hierarchy having the least chance of occurring. This means that the probability of a royal flush, which is the first hand, occurring is least, while the probability of a high card, which is the bottom-most hand in this hierarchy, occurs the most.
Let us now get down to understanding the possible poker hand sequences –
Royal Flush
It is the best straight flush of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10 – all the same suit. This one of the best poker hands you can get on the poker table. But it is also the rarest possible hand, with the odds of royal flush occurring is once in 649,737 times.
Straight Flush
It is the second-best poker hand that you can get – a sequence of five cards of the same suit in peculiar numerical order. An example of this poker hand will be J, 10, 9, 8, and 7 (all hearts or clubs or diamonds or spades).
Four of a Kind
This hand means four cards of equal rank and the fifth card being of a different one. An excellent example of this hand would be four Aces and a 10, or four Kings and a Jack.
Full House
This includes three of a kind (same rank) and a pair. The strongest full house possible will be AAAKK – where AAA is the three of a kind, and KK is the pair.
Flush
In the hierarchy, this is where you have five non-consecutive cards of the same suit, irrespective of the sequence. For instance, you can have A, and 7,5,3,2 of diamonds.
Straight
It refers to you holding five consecutive cards of a different suit. For example, a hand will be 8,9,10, J, and Q (with a mix of diamonds and clubs).
Three of a kind
It is three cards of the same rank (from any suit), with the other two cards of any suit. A good example will be three Kings and an Ace and a Jack.
Two Pair
An excellent example of two pair hand is QQJJ9, which means one pair of the same rank followed by another pair of the same rank and a different card.
One Pair
When you have two cards of the same rank along with three other random cards, you have one pair hand. The highest possible one-pair hand is AAKQJ.
High Card
The lowest possible hand in poker hand rankings is a simple high card. An Ace is the strongest high card possible, and seven is the lowest. Odds of a high card is once in 0.99 times.
